Occupation: WOC route-choice tester

March 13, 2008 ...by Michal Smola

Last week, far from the Czech Republic, in Le Caylar in France, the Czech Team spent one evening discussing possible challenging long legs on the map Durana which is in the centre of the competition area for the long distance final in WOC 2008. What is the best? Travers in an exceptionally steep slope, long fast asphalt choice or maybe an up-down straight variant? We were not often able to decide.

Back at home I decided to do an examination in terrain. Durana with its outstanding steep slopes and route-choices a complex system of deep valleys is embargoed, of course, so I was searching for a simulation somewhere close to my home. I have found one part of the map Raztoka steep enough. The routes marked 1, 2 and 3 were tested, and more there are two variants a and b on the routes 2 and 3. The test was run at a low pace, so there may be some differences, if it is run at competition speed. What are the results? Well, I hesitate to reveal them so easily. Make a guess and demand results.

Many thanks to SKOB Zlin.
